King Minos

An unforgettable journey to Crete

Embark on a journey to Crete, the land of King Minos, legendary son of Zeus and Europa, and Greece’s largest island. This program takes you across all four regions, unveiling Crete’s rich history, diverse landscapes, and vibrant culture.

In Chania, experience the perfect mix of stunning beaches and mountain adventures. Discover Seitan Limania with its turquoise waters and rugged cliffs, trek through the breathtaking Samaria Gorge—Europe’s longest and most famous gorge, attracting hikers from all over the world—and visit the pink sands of Elafonisi. Don’t miss Balos and Gramvousa, a breathtaking lagoon and an islet crowned with a Venetian fortress, offering views straight out of a dream.

In Rethymno, stroll through the Venetian harbor and winding alleys. Explore the imposing Fortezza, a historic fortress overlooking the city, and the serene village of Agia Galini, a charming coastal escape with vibrant tavernas and stunning sea views. Venture into the Cretan countryside, dotted with traditional villages.

Heraklion’s vibrant spirit awaits with the grand Knossos Palace, where Minoan legends come to life. Dive deeper into history at the Archaeological Museum, one of Greece’s most significant museums, and encounter marine wonders at the Cretaquarium, one of the largest aquariums in Europe, showcasing local and exotic marine life.

Lassithi invites you to relax in the coastal town of Elounda and uncover the tragic history of Spinalonga, the island that served as a leper colony for decades, holding countless stories of isolation and human endurance. Bask by the tranquil lake of Agios Nikolaos, blending seamlessly with the sea and offering a peaceful retreat.

Throughout your journey, practice conversational Greek with locals and fellow travelers, immersing yourself in the island’s warm hospitality and culture.

Crete’s unparalleled blend of natural beauty and ancient lore promises an unforgettable journey!

Ellis Koers

I’m Ellis and I’m from the Netherlands. I’ve been on an incredible journey learning Greek. It all started almost 3 years ago when I decided I wanted to learn this language.

Greece is my favorite vacation destination, and there is something unique about the Greek people that makes their language worth learning.

While learning Greek, I encountered so many challenges and funny moments, and I felt the need to share that with others who are learning Greek. That’s why I’m so excited to be part of a trip where I’ll meet so many like-minded people!

What better way to improve our Greek than by experiencing the language and culture firsthand?

I can’t wait to connect, practice, and explore Greece together!

How to get to Crete

By Plane

Crete has three airports:

  • Heraklion International Airport (HER) – The busiest and most connected, located near the island’s capital.
  • Chania International Airport (CHQ) – Serves the western part of the island, also well-connected.
  • Sitia Public Airport (JSH) – A smaller regional airport in the east.

Direct flights operate from major European cities, especially during the tourist season. There are also frequent domestic flights from Athens and Thessaloniki. The flight from Athens to Crete takes about 50 minutes.

By Ferry

Ferries to Crete depart mainly from the port of Piraeus (Athens), offering overnight journeys to:

  • Heraklion
  • Chania
  • Rethymno (seasonal)
  • Sitia

There are also connections from other Aegean islands, like Santorini and Mykonos. Ferries range from high-speed vessels to large conventional ships, and travel times vary from 6 to 9 hours.

For ferry tickets you can use FerryScanner to compare ferry schedules and book your tickets.

Upon arrival, we will pick you up from Chania International Airport (CHQ) or the Port of Souda in Chania. Those arriving earlier in the day will have some free time to explore the charming city of Chania before we head to the hotel in Rethymno. Please note that late arrivals (e.g., after 6 PM) or those not arriving in Chania can meet us directly at the hotel in Rethymno.
